Resumen
Comparando ciertos elementos presentes en “A la deriva” y en “El
hombre muerto” (ambos de Horacio Quiroga), el autor de este artÃculo pretende hacer evidente que si bien el primero de ellos es un cuento inequÃvocamente criollista, adjetivo que suele aplicársele a casi toda la producción cuentÃstica de Quiroga, el segundo, en cambio, debe ser considerado una narración mágicorrealista. El autor basa su análisis comparativo en el tono narrativo, la presencia o ausencia de ciertos temas, y el uso de estrategias representativas tanto de la literatura criollista como del realismo mágico.
Abstract
Comparing certain elements present in two short-stories by Horacio Quiroga, “A la deriva” and “El hombre muerto”, the author of this article tries to evidence that even if the first one can be unequivocally classified as “criollista”, an adjective that defines almost all of Quiroga’s narrative production, the second one, in contrast, should be regarded as mágicorrealista”. The author bases this comparative analysis on the differences of narrative tone between the two stories, the presence or absence of certain topics, and the use of strategies that characterize both “criollista” literature and “realismo mágico”.
